Question

What is osmotic pressure present during translocation of food in the phloem?

Open in App
Solution

Translocation of food molecules through phloem takes place under a pressure which is created due to water concentration difference of solution inside the phloem and the water flowing through adjacent xylem vessels. This is osmotic pressure. As the food molecules move through phloem, osmotic pressure decreases.
