Pruning is selective removal of certain parts of the plant. Gardner removes the apical buds as it inhibits the growth of the lateral buds. By removing the shoot tips it stimulates the auxins which in turn initiate rooting in the stem cuttings. As a result hedge becomes more thick & dense.
