What is real and apparent expansion of liquids

When a liquid kept in a container is heated,there is an expansion of container along with the liquid.But the amount of expansion of container is small than that of liquid.When the expansion of liquid is considered ignoring the expansion of the container is called apparent expansion.The real expansion is calculated by adding the expansion of the part of the container containing liquid before expansion with the apparent expansion of liquid.
