Solution

The redox reactions can be defined in the following ways.
1)Redox reactions are the reactions in which the oxidation and reduction process are carried out simultaneously i.e. one reactant is getting reduced by gaining of electrons while the other gets oxidized by loosing of electrons.
2) Redox reactions can be defined as the reactions in which one of the reactant gains oxygen or loss hydrogen gets oxidized and the other substance gains hydrogen or loss oxygen get reduced.
1. Pb3O4 + 8HCl →3PbCl2 + Cl2 + 4H2O
Here Pb is losing O from Pb3O4 and form PbCl2 hence Pb is reduced.
Cl is losing H from HCl and forming Cl2 hence Cl is oxidised.
2. CuO + H2 → Cu + H2O
Copper is losing oxygen from CuO hence Cu is reduced
H2 is gainig O to form H2O hence it is oxidized
