Dear Student, Reserve Fund is shown on the liability side of the Balance Sheet because these are prepared out of Profits of the company to meet future expenses or losses such as to redeem the Shares or Debentures or for purchase of an Asset. The amount of Reserves depends on the Profit earned by the company during a year.
