Any change in the natural composition of soil characterstics like its physical structure, cmposition or chemical composition is called soil pollution.
It may be caused by excessive use of pesticides and fertlizers, over irrigation, over ploughing, soil erosion, leaching, discherge of contaminated water, polluted underground water etc.
It can be prevented by not using too many pesticides and fertlizers, stopping the discharge of contaminated wastes and water into the soil, leaving top soil covered by vegetation to prevent erosion etc.
