What is stainless steel made of? And why doesn't it get attracted to a magnet even though it is made of steel?

It depend on the type of the steel you are basically using!
Alloys of Iron with nickel, chromium & carbon etc other compounds may lead to different grades of steel depending upon their composition. The amount of iron present in steel and their lattice sructure it may sometimes attract or weakly attract magnet.
