Question

what is the 7th postulate of deltons atomic theory?

Open in App
Solution

The seventh postulate of Dalton's law states that

In a given compound, the relative number and types of atoms are constant.

The above statement means that a given compound, whatever be its source will always have the same number of atoms and same type of atoms. In other words, the number of atoms different elements in a compound is fixed and does not vary. We can also say that the composition of a compound is fixed. Thus a molecule of water will always have 2 atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen. Hence water will always be represented by H2O and not HO, HO2, H2C etc.
