According to the question, Marked price is 12% above the cost price; so we have;
$x + x \times \frac{12}{100} = 140 \Rightarrow x + \frac{3 x}{25} = 140 \Rightarrow \frac{28 x}{25} = 140 \Rightarrow x = \frac{140 \times 25}{28} = 125$
Therefore the cost price is Rs.125.
