WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GOLD EARING AND A DULL SILVER SPOON IN TERMS OF APPEARENCE OF METAL?EXPLAIN THE REASON.

  • Gold is an inert metal. It does not undergo rusting i.e. does not undergo formation of any oxide layer on its surface when comes in contact with atmospheric oxygen and moisture. Thus even after a long time there is only a very minute change in its appearance.
  • Silver undergo formation of black colored oxide layer on its surface. Thus if silver comes in regular contact with oxygen and moisture, it becomes black after some time.

So a gold earring remains the same but a silver spoon changes it appearance with time.
