Question

what is the difference between atomic weight and molecular weight?

Open in App
Solution

The atomic weight is the average atomic mass of an atom of the element relative to 1/12 the mass of a carbon atom. On the other hand, molecular weight is the mass of a molecule which includes the mass of all the constituent atoms present in the molecule. Thus molecular weight is simply obtained by adding the atomic weights of the individual atoms in a molecule.
