Solution
A gametophyte is a phase in the life cycle of plants and algae. It is a stage of alternation of generations in which haploid gametes (sperm and ovum) are produced by mitosis. Gametophytes are produced from spores by meiosis.
Gametes are haploid cells produced from gametophytes by mitosis. Gametes include sperm in male and egg (ovum) in female. Male and female gametes are fertilised (fused) during reproduction to form zygote from which sporophytes are formed by repeated mitosis.
