what is the difference between kinetic energy and momentum,basically what is the definition of momentum??

Open in App
Solution

A measure of the motion of a body equal to the product of its mass and velocity. Also called linear momentum.

Linear momentum is a measure of an object 's translational motion. The linear momentum p of an object is defined as the product of the object 's mass m times its velocity v.

p = mv.

Linear momentum is a vector. Its direction is the direction of the velocity.

While kinetic energy is a form of energy possessed by objects in motion. like a moving car,or electrons revolving around the nucleus in an atom

mathematically

it is equal to 1/2mv2
