Question

what is the difference between myelin sheath and schwann cell

Open in App
Solution

The insulating envelope made of proteins and lipids that surrounds the axon of a myelinated nerve fibre and facilitates the transmission of nerve impulses is called myelin sheath. The purpose of the myelin sheath is to allow impulses to transmit fast. This lipid layer is formed by schwann cells in PNS and oligodendrocyte cells in case of the CNS.

The Schwann cells are the types of glial cells present in the PNS. They provide support and form the myelin sheath around the neurons of PNS.
