Open in App
Solution

  • Taxon is a taxonomic group of any rank, such as a species, family, or class.

  • The taxonomic hierarchy is a method of grouping together living organisms that share common features. It is introduced by Linnaeus and hence named as Linnaean hierarchy. It is defined as sequence of categories in a decreasing or increasing order from kingdom to species and vice versa.

The hierarchy has two categories:

  • 1. Obligate: range from kingdom to species
  • 2. Intermediate: Added with subdivision, super family, super class, suborder, subspecies etc.
