Question

What is the diffference between activity and rate of reaction .means explain difference between positive catalyst and negative catalyst

Open in App
Solution

Activity is defined for a particular reactant or specie . It is the reactivity rate of a particular specie or a element , whereas rate of reaction is defined for the overall reaction in which one or more reactants combine to give the products. Rate of reaction is generally related to the rate at which product formation occurs.

A catalyst is a substance that affects the rate of reaction by varying the activation energy of the reaction.
Positive catalyst are those catalyst which decreases the activation energy and thereby increasing the reaction rate.
Negative catalyst are those catalyst which increases the activation energy and thereby decreasing the reaction rate.
