Open in App
Solution

Disadvantages of modern farming over traditional farming are:

  1. Modern farming is capital extensive that is it requires a lot of money and so is possible to be practised only by rich or wealthy farmers.
  2. The fertilisers used in modern farming reduce the fertility of the soil over a long period of time.
  3. Pesticides and insecticides used pollute the water bodies and land largely.
  4. The tractors and harvesters prove economical only on large tracts of land and are not suitable in India scenario where the land holdings are small and divided.
  5. The seeds used in modern farming are also expensive and although high yielding, are not beneficial in the long run.
