Question

what is the effect of pressure on boiling point and melting point of a liquid

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

As the vapour pressure increases, boiling point decreases because boiling point is the temperature at which temperature of the liquid becomes equal to the atmospheric pressure.

On increasing the pressure, temperature will increase and hence melting of a substance takes place with a faster rate that is melting point decreases.
