Solution

1. The most basic cause for winds to blow is the existence of a pressure difference between two locations on the earth. A wind is nothing but movement of gases from one place to another. So when there is a low pressure area the gases from high pressure area move to occupy that area and hence the wind blows.

2. In India wind energy is harnessed in the following states: Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Andhra pradesh, West Bengal, Kerala and Rajasthan.

If you were to visit KANYAKUMARI, the farthest point of the india mainland, you can see wind farms in the way and also in distance from the VIVEKANAND MEMORIAL.

3. They both are Wind power and Power of water flow cannot be compared as such because they both depend upon the factors such as the capacity of the turbine equipment used and the rates of flow of water and the wind.

At present India harnesses 39788.40 MW from hydro electricity and 21136.2 MW from wind energy.

4.The major hindrances in developing them are:
  • Availability of areas where enough strength of the energy is available.
  • Funding to tap these resources.
  • Transportation of equipment to such areas.
  • Environmental degradation of such areas
