Question

What is the mass of an object whose weight is 98N,given that g=9.8m/s2?

Open in App
Solution

Weight is defined as the force that is exerted on it by gravity. Force is defined by the equation

F = ma

where F is the force exerted on the body, m is the mass and a is the acceleration.

We are given,

weight = 48N and

g (acceleration due to gravity) = 9.8 m/s2.

Substituting these values in the above equation we get,

48 = m X 9.8

therefore m = 48/9.8 = 4.9Kg (as 1 N = 1 Kg m s-2)

Hence the mass of body is 4.9Kg.
