what is the meaning of drupe?why we called Mango as a drupe fruit?

The fruit is known as drupe. In Mango, it develops from the single carpel and from flower which has superior ovary. The pericarp is well differentiated into an outer thin epicarp, a middle fleshy edible mesocarp and an inner stony hard endocarp.
