Question

what is the probability of a male child being haemophilic , if his mother is a carrier of the disease and his father is a normal person?

Open in App
Solution

Haemophilia is an X linked recessive disorder.

If the mother is a carrier then it means that one of her X chromosome has allele for haemophilia.

Father is normal this means that he is free of this allele for haemophilia.

Lets make a cross:

Mother genotype: XhX

Fathers genotype: XY

XhX
XXhXXX
YXhYXY

The probability of male child being haemophilic is 50%
