Question

what is the ratio of the si unit to cgs unit of angular momentum ?

Open in App
Solution

Hi!

Angular momentum L= r X p

Or, L= Iω

The SI unit of angular momentum is N.m.s. (Newton.meters.second) or Js (Joule Second).

So the cgs unit would be Dyne-centimeter-second or (Erg second)

1 N= 10 5 Dyne

1m= 100 cm

1s=1s

So, the ratio of SI unit to cgs unit would be:-

1Nms= 10 5 (100) (1) dyn cm s= 10 7 dyn cm s

So, the ratio of the two units = 10 7
