Question

What is the role of govt. in national development?

Open in App
Solution

The government has to play an important role in ensuring all-round development at the national level. This is particularly true of developing countries where many people are unable to attain a requisite standard of living that would guarantee them access to all services. Areas like education, health and housing need to be looked after by the government as the services offered by private institutions are often out of reach of many people. Social welfare which is one of the crucial components of development, becomes the priority of the government. Eradication of poverty also cannot be left only to private organisations. Government has to direct its policies to ensure the availability of funds for small scale industries to ensure that they remain vital to economy and do not suffer from competition. This encourages entrepreneurship and creates employment for many people. Increasing agricultural output and development of rural areas along with handling growth in urban areas in a planned manner is also the responsibility of the government.
