The Himalayan Rivers:
  • Most of these rivers are perennial and have water throughout the year
  • They receive water from melted snow
  • They carry an enormous amount of silt and sand during their course
  • They perform intensive erosion activities and carve out ox bow lakes, meanders at several places
  • They form well develop deltas in their course

Peninsular Rivers
  • They are much shorter than Himalayan rivers
  • They seasonal and their flows are dependent upon rainfall
  • During the dry season, even the large rivers are left with little flow
  • Most of the rivers originate in the Western Ghats and flow towards the Bay of Bengal
