What is the work done by the gravitational force of the sun acting on the earth when the earth revolves around the sun?

Open in App
Solution

The work done in this case is zero because the force acting on earth by the sun is the centripetal which is acting along the line joining their centers. At every point, displacement is perpendicular to the force therefore the work done is zero.
