Litmus is a pH indicator. When it is treated with some unknown solution it detects whether the solution is acidic, basic or neutral.
Working of litmus:
Litmus is of two different colours- blue and red.
Blue litmus on treatment with acid changes to red.
Red litmus on treatment with base changes to blue.

Litmus papers are available at any chemical store.
