What is upper epidermis and lower epidermis in plants?

Upper and lower epidermis is observed in leaves. Upper epidermis is present on upper side of leaf. Its surface is covered by waxy, waterproof layer called cuticle that prevents loss of water. The lower epidermis is present on the lower side of leaf. In case of leaf tissue, the stomata are abundant in lower epidermis as compared to upper epidermis.
