Vinegar is a liquid mixture constituting mainly acetic acid and water. Most commercial vinegars constitute 3 to 5% of acetic acid. Vinegar is produced by the fermentation of ethanol by acetic acid bacteria.


The uses of vinegar are:

  1. Vinegar is applied to the sting of common jellyfish to deactivate the nematocysts.
  2. It is sued as natural deodorant because of its antibacterial effect. Diluted vinegar is also used as hair conditioner and hair de-tangler.
  3. White vinegar is used as a cleaning agent in households’ especially cleaning brass, bronze, stainless steel or grease smeared windows.
  4. Diluted vinegar is also used as a screening tool for cervical cancer.
  5. It is used as herbicide as it kills top growth.
  6. It also used as preservative.
