1. Antonio Van Leeuwenhoek observed some tiny structures called as microorganisms ( e.g.- bacteria etc.) in a drop of pond water. He named these microorganisms as 'wee beasties' or 'animalcules'.

2. Micro-organisms are small microscopic organisms that can be found anywhere such as in a drop of pond water, floating in air etc. They are not visible from naked eyes.

3. During unfavourable conditions, micro-organisms protect themselves by forming a protective coat around themselves known as cyst under which they remain metabolically less active.
