Measures taken to prevent Defection:
a. Anti Defection law was passed in 1985 which states that if any sitting MLA or MP changes his party, he will lose his seat in the legislature.
b. The law sets the provisions for disqualification of elected members on the grounds of defection to another political party.
c. The law also states that if the legislator abstains from voting in such House contrary to any direction issued by his political party or anyone authorized to do so, without obtaining prior permission, he stands disqualified.
