The French Revolution supported the following principles:
a. The French revolution was based on the ideals of liberty, equality and fraternity that aimed at establishing new social and political order. These Principles were reflected in the Declaration of the Rights of the man which recognised the rights, liberties of individuals.
b. The revolution rejected the theory of divine rights of the king, which declared king as the representative of God on Earth and aimed at establishing government based on popular consent.
c. It popularised the idea of natural rights to life, liberty and property as natural and inalienable rights and which are endowed in an individuals by law of nature. The government so formed must indeed, defend and protect the natural rights of the individual.
d. It challenged the social order based on privileges , instead identified the principle of equality of opportunities, merit as the basis of society.
e. The revolution outlined the principles of division and separation of powers as against the concentration of power in the hands of a monarch.
f. It provided for participation of people in the political process by granting them voting rights, laying the foundation of a democratic rule.
