1) Native people of America were separated from rest of the world and as a result they were not immune to some of the common diseases of the Old World like small pox. When the Europeans arrived in the New World they brought many new diseases with them.
2) The indigenous people had no immunity against the diseases and small pox spread wildly like fire thereby killing numerous people in the region
