1. Adhering itself to the Bhakti tradition, the Prarthana Samaj believed in and preached the spiritual equality of all the castes.
2. Violated the caste related taboos on Food and touch. Even their religious meetings drew upon the texts of all the religions- hindu, buddhist and christian.
3. Was against child marriage, and the ban on widow remarriage. Encouraged Women Education, thus actually promoting their status and enlightnment.
