Question

WHAT WAS THE EXPERIMENT CARRIED OUT BY MICHAEL FARADAY WHEN HE PASSED ELECTRICITY THROUGH THE SOLUTION OF AN ELECTROLYTE

Open in App
Solution

Faraday proposed two laws based on his experiment of electrolysis :

I Law : Mass iberated at an eectrode is directly proportional to the charge passed through the electrolyte. ( m ∝ q )

II Law : When same amount of charge is passed through the different types of electrolytes then the amount of mass liberated at their electrode is ratio of the substance liberated to their equivalent masses.

electrochemical equivalents (Z) = w / q
