What was the result of fall of jacobin government ?
The fall of the Jacobin government allowed the wealthier middle classes to seize power. A new constitution that denied vote to non-propertied sections of society was introduced. It provided for two elected legislative councils which then appointed a Directory made up of five members. This was a safeguard against concentration of power in the hands of one person. However, the Directors clashed with the legislative councils, when they sought to dismiss them. The politically instable atmosphere paved the way for the rise of a military dictator, Napoleon Bonaparte.
