Solution

Dear Student

The answer to your question is as follows:

Philosophers played an important part in the development of ideas that led to the French Revolution. These ideas visualized a society based on freedom and equal laws and opportunities for all people. John Locke refuted the divine and absolute powers of the monarch in his Two Treatises of Government while Rousseau proposed a democratic government based upon a social contract between the people and their representatives. This was the inspiration behind the demand for voting powers to all members of the assembly or the Estates General. Montesquieu advocated the division of power into legislative, executive and Judiciary, similar to the United States. The political thinkers of France were also inspired by the American Constitution and its idea of individual freedom. Ideals of liberty and justice were propagated among the common people through plays, songs and festive processions. This led to the awakening of the masses towards the need for universal rights and the creation of an equal society.

Hope this answers your question.

Best wishes
