What was the status of women during vedic era ?
Women enjoyed a high status in the Vedic period. They were treated as equals to men in all matters. Women, like men, were given education and could wear the sacred thread if they wished too. Although the majority of the women looked after the household chores and children, the Vedas mention some women scholars such as Gargi, Maitreyi and Vac. Women attended religious assemblies and women of the Kshatriya class could even participate in warfare.
