Non-Cooperation Movement was launched all over the country by Mahatma Gandhi in 1920 as a protest against the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. Under the Non-Cooperation Movement, many other movements were launched. The Khilafat Movement brought in the Muslim population of the country to participate wholly in the freedom struggle. People boycotted the use of foreign goods especially foreign cloth. There was picketing of shops. People picketed in front of liquor shops too.

The Swadeshi Movement also took shape during this time. Small and domestic industries such as Khadi and handicrafts prospered under this movement.

In the countryside, landlords and rich peasants refused to pay revenue and other taxes. The poor peasants facoured more radical movements that promised land on victory.

The tribals like in Gudem in Andhra Pradesh, military guerilla movement began and gained popularity. These movements gathered support by using popular folklore and folk songs.

There were swadeshi movements in the plantations with the plantation workers striking and even Mahatma Gandhiji actively supported the causes and struggle of the plantation workers.
