Question

what will happen if the carbon monoxide combines with haemoglobin?

Open in App
Solution

Carbon monoxide combines with haemoglobin to make carboxyhaemoglobin. Formation of carboxyhaemoglobin reduces the amount of haemoglobin available to bind to oxygen, resulting in oxygen starvation to the body and the tissues.

Carboxyhaemoglobin has effects on the blood vessels of the body and makes them leaky ,this happens in the brain and leads to unconsciousness and neurological damage.
