The source of magnetic potential is poles. Magnetic potential is defined as the work required to bring a unit pole from infinity to some point in space in the presence of a magnetic field . Unlike the electrostatic case, magnetic pole surfaces do not generally have totally uniform magnetic potential across their surfaces .There is always a potential difference between the poles.
