What would be the advantages of exploring resources and long term aim?

Long term exploitation of natural resources have some advantages like stationary economic growth, more facilities to common people, high living standards of the people, fast developments of nations etc. But it should be done in a way such that all resources are not exhausted at a given time. So we should think about short term aim rather than long terms exploration of these resources.
