Question

When a ball is thrown upwards its momenum first decreases then increases. Is conservation of linear momentum violated in this process?

Open in App
Solution

No, the law of conservation of momentum will not be violated here.

Second law of motion states that the net force acting on a body is directly proportional to the rate of change of momentum.

As the gravitational force is acting on a body, it's momentum changes accordingly.
