Question

When a force is applied on an object it resists it due to inertia. So when the body comes in motion what happens to the inertia of the object. Does it become less or does it become zero.

Solution

There are two types of inertia

  1. Inertia of rest.
  2. Inertia of motion.

When the body is in rest position its inertia is inertia of rest, due to this inertia body can not change its position of rest on its own. When the body is in motion its inertia is inertia of motion, due to this inertia body neither accelerate nor retards on its own.

When a body starts moving from the rest position its inertia changes form inertia of rest to inertia of motion.
