When a knife is sharpened with the help of a rotaing grinding stone , the spark always travel tangentially to it . WHy ?

Solution

This is due to inertia of Direction!
It means the resistance of a moving object to having its direction changed. The body tries to retain its original direction!
So as we sharpen the knife the spark that is produced due to the friction tries to retain its original direction, which at that particular time is tangential velocity!
