Question

when a solid is heated it changes into liquid .why wood does not melt?

Wood is composed of several chemicals like cellulose, lignin etc. i.e. it is not a pure solid.
Secondly, when heated in air, components of wood react with atmospheric oxygen.
Hence, wood burns rather than melt.
