Question

When air is filled into a balloon the pressure inside the balloon increases and so does the volume. Explain this apparent contradiction of Boyle,s law?

Solution

Boyle’s law states that for a given amount of gas the pressure of the gas is inversely proportional to its volume.

In case of an expanding balloon this law doesn’t hold since the amount of gas is changing. So, both volume and pressure of the gas within the volume increases with air filled into it.
