Question

When an object is immersed into the fluid two forces act on the object in the vertically opposite directions. Name them and also write the factors on which the magnitude of these forces depends on.

Solution

The two forces are :Weight of object in downward direction and buoyant force in upward direction.

The magnitude of buoyant force acting on an object immersed in a liquid depends on two factors:

(i)Volume of object immersed in the liquid-As the volume of object immersed inside the liquid increases, the upward buoyant force also increases.

(ii)Density of the liquid-The liquid having higher density exerts more upward force than another liquid having lower density.
