The first section of the underground railway in the world was opened on 10th January, 1863 between Paddington and Farrington Street in London.

The difficulties of travelling in that underground railway were

1.The Compartments would be over crowded and too hot.

2. The atmosphere was polluted with a mixture of sulphur, coal and dust with fuel fumes from the gas lamps.

. Many felt that underground railways were like iron monsters which brought mess and unhealthiness to the city. There would be suffocation due to lack of oxygen supply and heat.
