Question

when Earth radiates infra red rays, they are radiated back by atmosphere,

so when sun rays come down , are they also radiated back to sun by atmosphere without reaching the earth's ground?

Solution

Hi Harshit,

Anything that can absorb radiation will emit radiation too. Earth absorbs the radiation from sun and emits back heat radiation to the atmosphere. Same is done by the atmosphere. The upper atmosphere absorbs some radiations from the sun and emits those back to the space or towards the sun. Those radiations don’t reach the earth’s surface.
Hope this answers your query.
